Today a broadcast about a neonatal nurse asked the country to look again at a case that has haunted the NHS. Watching it, I couldn't stay silent โ because I used to work inside that system, in Scotland, and I know what it does to the people in it.
I am not here to say whether any individual is guilty or innocent. That is for the courts and the processes that are still running. What I am here to say is what it was like to work on the inside, and what happens to workers and patients when an institution closes ranks to protect itself.
These two videos are my reaction โ recorded today, in my own voice, as a disabled survivor, as a gay man, and as someone who once wore the uniform.
That the people who speak up are not trouble-makers. They are the ones who still believe the system can be better than it treated them. That a worker who is written off, dismissed, or battered by the machine deserves to be heard โ and believed. And that no survivor should have to fight this fight alone.
I have been on that side of it. I know the weight. And I am still standing, still speaking, still building โ because love is love, and no one left behind.
